His physical interaction with Shelton looked sloppy and awkward. The crowd popped for him, which is what you want when he's a babyface who won't have been cheap to hire. I'm glad he's keeping his shirt on lately until he gets in better shape for Saudi Arabia.

It wasn't that bad, the way people were reacting online was like Velasquez had botched everything he did, it wasn't like that at all he just didn't do much of note, fans obviously wanted to see him destroy Shelton Benjamin not just put him on the mat with some amateur wrestling takedowns.
I would like to see them keep his alliance with Mysterio going as Cain clearly isn't a particularly strong promo. |

He'd be just fine if he had a chance to have his surgery and then recover. This early the match is going to be a dumpster fire.

He looks more out of place in WWE than anyone i can remember.
He looks like a fan when he walks to the ring. He is not physically imposing or anything like that - he looks tiny compared to his MMA days. He needs surgery. He needs trained to the WWE style of wrestling. He needs time to express himself, dont think hes said a word yet He needs to be as far away from a WrestleMania main event for at least another 18 months

I suspect he will be brought back for the occasional match once fans are allowed to attend events again. He had a serious knee injury and hasn't long been back training so it makes sense to cut ties for now. The money his contract will have been you need fans for his appearances to get your money out of it.

He needed more training and experience before he arrived in WWE, not to mention he needed to recover from his injury and get in shape.
WWE clearly only signed him to keep him out of AEW, in some respects it was a ruthless business move as they brought him in had him work a match with Lesnar where Brock quickly beat him and now Velasquez is gone. So Brock gets his win and Velasquez leaves WWE looking weak damaging his reputation. Makes me wonder If he will wind up in AEW as they wanted him before he signed with WWE, plus they would probably allow him the freedom to work in AAA as well if he wants to. This is a smart business move though, during a time where WWE are saving money wherever they can Velasquez was probably on a higher salary than many full time WWE talent but he clearly wasn't ready for mainstream tv and has nagging injury issues. It would be a injustice to the other talent released to keep someone like him around.

He's not from the wrestling business so unless you told him to keep his Royal Rumble appearance a secret you can't really have a go at him for telling people. They shouldn't be mad at him either if they think he knew about the condition of his knee before signing as E should do a full medical examination before getting him to sign a contract, so that's their fault too. It was pretty dumb bringing him in on a expensive multi year contract then have him job in three minutes on debut.

Yeah good riddance. I hope this serves as a template for a while. Brock Lesnar was a complete freak of nature and actually started as a wrestler. But leaving the door open to these celebrities and MMA folks that think they get a good easy pay day is a huge detriment in the long run.
(Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler are two exceptions of course but Ronda has acting/stunt experience between the UFC and WWE, and Baszler actually started from the bottom and worked up. So I don’t count them in the above argument).

They only signed Velasquez to keep him out of AEW and to job him out to Lesnar I'm pretty sure of that now.
But yeah signing someone without doing due diligence on their fitness or being sure they are ready for the mainstream is a big mistake WWE made with him. As HBK mentioned some MMA personalities just take to pro wrestling like they've always done it Ronda Rousey being a prime example, but Velasquez did not. He looked awkward and out of his depth during his few appearances, it's a smart release.
