with a thread for kurt angle i think chris benoit needs one. he also can have a good match with a broomstick and his lack of mic skills dont matter. the guy as done it all in wwe, wcw, ecw, japan, mexico etc. a true professional who aint bothered about putting people over. but the main reason for this thread is.

Quote According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer writes that Chris Benoit's contract expires in three weeks time and that he too was given a Christian-style, 'lowball' offer (i.e. a contract offer for less money than he is currently on).

on top of that people reckon he may want to go wrestle in japan again. ffs vince what is he think offering him a low contract ? he simply cannot afford to lose him as tna would gobble him up straight away. wwe made 11 million dollars profit in the 3 months from may to july. so they dont have to try and save money with bad offers to top tier talent.

There is no way they should let go of a wrestle as popular as Chris, you saw the reaction he got when he was drafted back to Smackdown. I for one but be sad to see him go.
People who think they know everything are annoying to those of us who do

Benoit is pretty good, I don't like the whole toothless thing with all the money he has, but him and kurt angle do some pretty mean german suplexes.

i don't want benoit to quit.  if he does, he'll probably go to tna just like everyone else.  wwe is losing so many people.  if they keep losing the good ones, who's left to keep their ratings up?

thanks to jackie for sig

So Beniot leaves and we lose a technical wrestler. The WWE doesn't appreciate the style of Benoit-esque wrestling anyway. Instead they let Batista and John Cena and other people who can barely pull off a decent suplex reign supreme. It would be different for Beniot if -like Kurt Angle- he could cut a decent promo or carry a good rivalry or even put lower wrestlers over but he can't.

If Beniot is let go, it's a win-win situation. Benoit can just become TNA's latest acquire and become a diamond among gems instead of rusting out in the WWE.

First Christian and now possibly Benoit, what the hell is the WWe thinking.  One of the greatest wrestlers in recent years and they insult him by offering him a reduced contract.  He's one of my favourites and always gives the fans value for money in the ring.  He would just be impossible to replace.

Just for the record...........from what I know neither Chris or Christian were offered less money.......they were offered more money than their contract states now.........Both guys are basically burned out from the  years of traveling constantly and want a break.

Quote Chris Benoit's contract renewal time period with WWE has come up and according to reports, his new offer was no where near the amount he was earning before. Many have compared this situation to that of Christian who made a decision to not accept a new deal with WWE when they offered him less money as well. Christian was not issued a 90 day no compete clause because his contract actually ran up.

It should be noted that with WWE's new TV deal with USA blocking the chance to earn advertising revenue, it means there is less money to throw around inside the company. Because of this, top names like Chris Jericho (who walked away from the company for the time being) and Chris Benoit (who could be walking away soon) are no longer getting downside guarantees that they were getting just a few years ago in the $600,000-$900,000 a year range. Adding in the fact that with poor buyrates for Pay Per View events and low attendance at House Shows recently, the WWE isn't very strong financially at the moment.

Because of this situation, WWE has been put in a position where they are now offering new deals at half the amount many workers were used to earning just a few years ago. This means workers earning in the range of $600,000-$800,000 a year are now being offered deals around the $180,000, $200,000 or $250,000 a year range. Some reports have even stated that Benoit's new deal was possibly even under $200,000 in terms of a downside guarantee with the potential to earn more later that year. At this point, many workers who have been with WWE in the last few years or so that have saved their money well can either choose to re-sign, take time off or look at a deal with TNA that could be pretty close to what they would earn in a downside guarantee with WWE (although more potential is always there with a WWE deal in terms of a push helping to increase a downside guarantee).

It should be noted that Chris Benoit leaving WWE is purely RUMOR right now and some sources believe that he will re-sign as the market in Japan (the place he'd most like to go) isn't all that good right now.

poor buyrates and house show crowds are down to creative NOT the wrestler. so they shouldnt be offered less money in a new contract. they go out and wrestle to the standard they always have so pay shouldnt change. i dont blame guys not rushing into signing new contracts. chris benoit lost again on smackdown this week. because his contract is running out they put him on a losing streak and have him drop the us title.
