Big E was excellent in the gauntlet match albeit he didnt get past Bryan - his showing was top notch and that just shows you what could be if they decided to split the new day

Quote The New Day vs. Sanity: This is the first match in a four-team tournament to decide who earns a shot at the Bludgeon Brothers at SummerSlam. The Usos are on commentary, and they face The Bar next week in the tournament. Woods and Big E will represent The New Day in this one, and Alexander Wolfe and Killian Dain will represent Sanity. Wolfe starts off strong, but Woods dodges a shot and drops him with an elbow to the face. Eric Young causes a distraction, which leads to Wolfe hitting a suplex on Woods. Dain tags in and continues the offense on Woode with a slam and then a senton bomb. Woods starts fighting back against Dain and the fight spills out to ringside. This one falls apart as Young and Kofi get involved, which leads to The New Day hitting the Midnight Hour on Wolfe for the three count.

Winners: The New Day

- The New Day will now face the winners of The Usos vs. The Bar next week.

No issue with New Day winning. Such an experienced tag team should be beating a new team on the block, more often than not.

I don't expect them to get a title shot, but whoever stops them from getting it, will get a good rub.

Even though they have done so little for ages, crowds still pop for them and enjoy seeing them.

Yeah, I still say they are the side show of this era. They aren’t taken serious anymore and would like to throw cereal and pancakes instead of getting physical. They got the talent , got the mic skills. They don’t need a belt on them but just think of them in heel form screwing everyone trying to get their spot or push.

Quote  Bryan Alvarez mentioned on Wrestling Observer Live that Big E could turn on Kofi Kingston at WWE Fastlane to setup a Big E vs. Kofi KingstonWrestleMania 35 match. Kingston is, of course, set to face Daniel Bryan at Fastlane. “Big E is going to turn on Kofi Kingston. I watched the show Tuesday night. Kofi’s talking about how he loves his brothers. He’s getting another opportunity. These guys are just hanging out in the background and throwing pancakes. It’s inevitable. Big E. vs Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania. That’s my prediction.” Bryan would then go on to face a returning star at WrestleMania. (h/t RingSideNews)

I really hope this is the plan. As a group the New Day are stale, the silliness and pancake tossing has got old and it's time to see what they can do as singles acts.

With how over Kofi has proved to be recently he could easily be shot into a top babyface spot and as a result of the split it could also propel Big E into a top heel role.

Xavier could perhaps carry on the New Day gimmick as a solo act in the mid-card.

That would be a phenomenal plan ... i guess it makes sense why they have been bringing new day to every situation where Kofi has lost

Big E is an excellent heel and i really think he needs a push - the rumored push at last years MITB didnt quite happen which was a shame for me

I'm a bit mixed on this TBH... I think they need to book this such that they can go one of two ways and make the final decision during the match by way of message to the ref. Keep the wrestlers informed that that is what they will be doing and to look to the ref for the finish. THEN they need to watch the crowd and see how they react to Kofi during the match. If Kofi has crazy momentum with the fans, then they need to hold off on Big E's turn and move forward with Kofi vs Bryan for the title at WrestleMania. If it sounds like Kofi's momentum has slowed, then go with the Big E heel turn.

Either way I want to see Big E get a serious singles push at or near the main event, but Kofi is rapidly becoming a new Daniel Bryan circa 2014 case, and it'd not only be a waste, but a big mistake not to give the fans their first full-blooded African American WWE Champion in history at WrestleMania.

I guess it depends on what the original plan was: namely, was Kofi brought into the title picture because of Ali's injury?

if yes, then we all know how pig-headed Vince can be when the fans suddenly get really behind a guy and an idea.

what I've heard is that the plan is for Kofi to get his shot at Mania, and with Kevin Owens returning and seemingly being a face for now, it could make sense that he and Kofi face off after Fat Lane for a title shot at Mania, Kofi wins clean, and then Owens turns after Mania and enters into a programme after costing Kofi the title at Mania.

I don't see a split at all within the New Day right now. As once Big E is done with Kofi, and potentially with Woods, if he sides with Kofi, where does Big E go? if Woods stays with him, and also turns against Kofi, then there's tag titles, but that can be done anyway, even if Kofi is put in the Smackdown Championship picture for the next few months.

and since I doubt Bryan is dropping the belt at any point before the end of the year, I can't see E being in the title picture instead.

I think they played Kofi's reaction to being pulled from the title match well. Big E and Woods were the ones getting pissed off but Kofi was just deflated and defeated. I think it played on the audience's sympathies well. It's like Kofi has been held down for so long he doesn't have any fight left in him against the authority. This was highlighted even more by how excited and alive he was when he first got the ring and was about to sign the contract.

It's not a typical approach WWE takes when building a babyface, so I hope it pays off for many reasons.

Im assuming that Kofi will be fighting for the title at Wrestlemania based on the recent events on Smackdown

So the heel turn I mentioned for Big E above may well be happening

He has planted a seed on Twitter today which basically says being a good guy doesn't work and you need to be a bad guy to be a star in WWE
