Continuing my series of Something to Wrestle With inspired posts I listened to the episode that covered the NWO group’s brief tenure in WWE, as always was very interesting providing stories that I did and didn’t know.

It probably won’t surprise anyone that most of the roster and staff were against Hall and Nash returning including Prichard but ultimately Hogan and Triple H had enough stroke to bring them in.

It was always a concern that Hulk would get a overwhelming babyface reaction but they did underestimate it and of course that forced a quick face turn for Hogan.
HBK being added to the group was a salvage effort due to his Clique history, Big Show and X-Pac were added as a big guy and a worker due to concerns about Hall and Nash not being able to go in the ring.
Of course the angle went from one calamity to another with Hall getting fired due to his drinking problems and then Nash tearing a quad just walking across the ring and needing about a year out, that was the final straw and they pulled the plug.

I’ve been watching a lot of old school WWE lately on the Network and remembering how great the Razor Ramon and Diesel characters were, makes me think once Hulk turned face and then we headed into the first draft would WWE have been smarter to just scrap the NWO right there and have Hall and Nash return to the Diesel and Razor gimmicks perhaps on separate brands? Shawn Michaels could still have returned and worked his angle with Triple H just without all the NWO stuff prior.

The problem is as it always is with wrestling factions, too many cooks spoil the broth.

Fair enough Hogan/Nash/Hall, they are the original outsiders and a super group in their own right. Adding bums like X-Pac, Booker T and Show who werent doing anything of any note that whole year just served to water down the effect of the group.

Reckon Diesel would have been ok to bring back but at that time the Razor gimmick would have been shunned. Probably best just to keep them as Nash and Hall, at that point in their careers Nash was half-arsing everything and Hall was deep into drugs so little would have changed.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Razor & Diesel join DX TBH. Might as well throw in X-Pac as he was already DX as well. The storyline that bugged me the most with the nWo was Triple H acting reluctant to join. That made no sense at all.

Well being on the " back in the day" bandwagon, wonder if we will see a DX vs a Brothers of Destruction match coming soon to a arena near you.
