[/QUOTE]Granted, some ladder match purist might dislike the concept. But if a match produces as many good matches as King of the Mountain has, I dont think it can count as being a bad gimmick match. The hell in the cell could be seen as a bad gimmick match because all it is, is a cage with a top around the ring. You could have every plain ass match in that ring (kinda like PG WWE does every year now). But because it has had amazing matches in the past, no one would say its a bad gimmick. Just like I think King of the Mountain is not a bad gimmick.

This has made me think that maybe some gimmick matches become good only because the people involved were amazing at working it? Example: Shawn Michaels v Taker HIAC, Mick Foley v Taker HIAC, E&C v The Hardyz v The Dudley Boyz Tag TLC, Shawn Michaels v Razor Ramon Ladder Match, and the list goes on and on.

I would agree.  In a way the rules of KOTM are a little too confusing, and a bit long winded, but at least they make for a different kind of gimmick match than you would normally see.  And as you said there have been some very enjoyable matches, given some of the headline TNA had in their peak years.

In general... any gimmick match that requires more than a single sentence explaination is a bad gimmick match.

The worst in WWE was the Gimmick Battle Royal.  WWE tried this twice before they realized it was total crap.

The worst in TNA was the Reverse Battle Royal.  It made the King of the Mountain rules seem sensible.  Worst yet... TNA tried it twice.

But in wrestling history it's still hard to top World Class Championship Wrestling and the "handicap steel cage loser leaves town elimination match."  WCCW loved to throw gimmick on top of gimmick and create complete messes.  WCCW tried this multi-gimmick match more than once.  But even they couldn't figure out what the stipulations were supposed to mean.  Did the just the losing team "leave town" or was it everyone that was eliminated during the match?

FYI... shouldn't this thread really be in the General Wrestling section?

Idk, but think that the Gimmick Battle Royal match was intended to be crap unless I am mistaken haha. I was pretty sure it was just a "bathroom break" match so that anyone who needed to relieve themselves before the main event got there would be able to so that they would be ready for the big main event.

Never have I once looked forward to an Inferno, Casket or Buried Alive match, so I guess they can be thrown on the list.

Stretcher Match.

absolutely retarded.

KOTM does indeed have ridiculous rules, but it has produced some great matches. I think thats more down to the talent TNA have used in them, rather than the actual rules of thematch though.

One of the coolest match ideas I think the WWE came up with (even if it was just a one time thing) was the Boiler Room Brawl match with Taker and Mankind

Trouble with Casket matches is are they normally involve big clumisy guy, who are only there to give the Undertaker a monster to play with, and also onece you have seen a few there are hardly any suprises.

Baried Alive I don't mind, because it is a good way to blow off a feud, and yes Taker and Mankind was a very good one.

Didn't WCW do an episode of Nitro were the ring was on a platform in a swimming pool?  Then a whole bunch of the guys kept getting knocked into the water.  It was like an entire gimmick show.
