From Jim Ross Website..........

Quote Hey JR Reading Bret harts biography made me wonder a few things about 'ribs' (not the BBQ kind) Are ribs as common in the locker room nowadays as they used to be a few decades ago, are there many wrestlers, both past and present whom have been considered 'off limits' when it comes to ribs, and whats your favourite rib thats been pulled on you?

No one is off limits re: ribs but some "ribbers" many times took things too far to the point that the ribs were far from funny. Some ribs involved people getting H-Bombed which is stupid and ill conceived especially if the person being ribbed has an allergic reaction to the mixture of medication and alcohol.

* What are the favourite practical jokes you have heard before? Many over the years have gone far beyond being funny.

* I reckon Michael Hayes ponytail being cut on the plane ride from hell was rather funny.

* Wrestlers can be more childish than anyone when they get together under the influence of something.

Ribbing is a big part of a wrestling locker room. It, along with the practice of trading insider gossip and different locker room political traditions (shaking hands, different ways to approach having a match with someone, etc) build comraderie and cohesiveness among a locker room. It generally involves an elder or veteran wrestler ribbing a rookie with a variety of different techniques, from subtle jokes in front of the rest of "the boys" to different pranks.

I remember Wes Brisco joking around with me about my bag at the time (it was pink, and it was the only bag I could find) and hounding me for the rest of the night at my first show. I also remember Shane Chung constantly winding me up about my love of The Beatles ("You know how John Lennon and Abraham Lincoln are alike, Russ? Marines killed 'em both!") but it was never anything to get mad about. It was all good fun, and the better you could dish it back out, the better off and more respected you would be.

Some ribs I've heard about include Dory Funk ribbing George "The Animal" Steele about his physique (he'd walk up to him at every show, house or t.v, and shake his hand and say "Lookin' good, George, been hittin' the gym?"), Owen Hart constantly pranking Bret (one house show, he hid an open can of sardines under the ring hours before the show started, and towards the end of their match he flew out of the ring, reached under the apron, dipped his hand in the slop, and came back and smacked Bret in the face with it before running to the back and jumping in a car), and Owen again ribbing the entire roster at a mall by turning off the escalator while the rest of the crew were riding it up.

Any more you guys have heard about?

I´ve heard that Owen was generally known as a prankster backstage, and as someone who would keep the mood up at all times.
